just saw them in Chicago last night and Lars was ON. They did an extended outro/solo to FADE and he nailed the double kick the whole way

You can be technically gifted on any instrument but that doesn't mean you can create songs that will be a masterpiece and will be remembered for a long time.

He's got such a weird technique but it has always worked for him. Drum stool is a bit low and he's heels up with toes at the pedal end. Not much ankle rotation either. Most fast double bass guys are the complete opposite.

I started listening to Metallica when the Load-Reload albums came. At that time (1997) I cursed what they did - hair cuts, the whole non-metal vibe... As the years passed I started to appreciate more & more these two albums, to the point where I consider them, especially Load, a masterpiece. THIS SONG is such a hidden gem, Oh man I would LOVE to hear it live!!!!

It's difficult to criticize Lars when I see and hear things like this....because he looks so happy. Sitting on that stool, he looks like a kid who was $1 short at the ice cream truck on a hot summer day, and the ice cream man just gives him a freebie.
